Covid 19 Delta outbreak: Covid positive man escapes Auckland MIQ Novotel & Ibis Ellerslie Hotel

A 33-year-old man who’s Covid optimistic has been arrested after escaping an MIQ resort this afternoon within the Auckland suburb of Ellerslie.

The contaminated man was staying on the Novotel & Ibis Ellerslie MIQ facility, on Inexperienced Lane East, and absconded at roughly 12.50pm right now.

The escapee was arrested by police and brought into custody at roughly 1.14pm.

In a press release, Joint Head of MIQ Brigadier Rose King mentioned: “The person is a COVID-19 optimistic neighborhood case who has been in MIQ since October 23”.

“The truth that somebody has absconded from one among our amenities is a disappointing and unacceptable breach. We’re investigating how this occurred,” Variety mentioned.

A police spokesperson mentioned the 33-year-old is now in custody within the Auckland District Custody Unit in Mount Eden and fees are being thought of.

“Police workers who interacted with the person right now have been sporting applicable PPE,” the police spokesperson mentioned.

A police presence was seen blocking Mitchelson St, Ellerslie, just a few blocks from the Novotel & Ibis Lodge on Inexperienced Lane East.
