A 33-year-old with Covid-19 has been arrested after allegedly escaping from an MIQ resort within the Auckland suburb of Ellerslie this afternoon.

The person allegedly absconded from the Novotel & Ibis Ellerslie MIQ facility at about 12.50pm and was arrested by police in PPE gear at 1.14pm.
He’s now in custody within the Auckland District Custody Unit in Mount Eden.
In an announcement, Joint Head of MIQ Brigadier Rose King mentioned in an announcement that the Covid-19 constructive case had been in MIQ since 23 October.
King mentioned the truth that somebody had absconded from one of many nation’s MIQ amenities was a “disappointing and unacceptable breach”.
“We’re investigating how this occurred,” Type mentioned.
It follows an analogous escape in early September, when a person fled the same facility and was later arrested at an Ōtāhuhu handle.
