The fitness community has grown by leaps and bounds during the 21st century. It began with the Internet and forum boards, where bodybuilding fans could discuss and discuss athletes and competition venues. Then, social media came along. First it was MySpace and Facebook, then Twitter, and today Instagram and TikTok dominate the space. Of course, you can’t discount YouTube and its influence on the entire fitness industry.
You may be wondering what’s next, or what’s left, in terms of the ways the worlds of bodybuilding and fitness intersect. The next frontier for the global fitness community may be in the form of Metaverse and NFT.
Don’t believe me? This is already happening all around us thanks to NFT company, MetaPumps. Earlier this year, founder Whitney Reed launched the company with the goal of creating and selling to consumers.

“NFT’s are non-fungible tokens. They are unique digital identifiers that cannot be copied, instead they are recorded in the blockchain,” Reid said. “It is used for proof of authenticity and ownership.”
Those characters will come with utilities and assets that can benefit them now and later. Those who wonder why people would want to collect NFTs can think back to their childhood when sports cards were popular items to own, trade and sell. Reed realized that his passion for collectibles and cryptocurrency could be combined in the project.
“The MetaPump NFT project started as a fun side project that I created out of my interest in the crypto space and collectibles. I’m a huge collector of sports memorabilia and also very beginner in crypto, ” Reid explained. “Creating the NFT project was a combination of my 2 hobbies.”
It’s never wrong to take advantage of business opportunities and strive to succeed, but some of the most successful people in business like Tony Robbins and Gary Vaynerchuk will tell you that having a big goal is the key to longevity. Reid found his greater purpose with MetaPumps, creating a positive fitness network and community with a shared passion for self-improvement.
“When I first started the MetaPump collection, my goal was to create a fun network of fitness-minded individuals/bodybuilding enthusiasts,” shares Reid. In the early stages of developing his brand, he joined forces with four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. Cutler and Reed have worked together in the past, and they both agreed that this could be another positive step for the fitness industry and themselves.
“The first collection is a bunch of characters based on Cutler. Owning each NFT will give you real-life utility,” Reid said. These utilities may include discounts on BPI or Cutler nutrition supplements, promotions with other fitness brands, and even connecting some people to Cutler itself. People who can only watch Cutler on YouTube or social media can’t directly access and learn from a legend.
“NFTs will be the next level of communication with Jay and other fitness personalities in our project.”
If you’re familiar with bodybuilding, you may understand that Cutler is considered the most successful bodybuilding businessman outside of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Reid pointed out that he was always one step ahead of his fellow competitors, which is why he remains one of the most relevant names in the sport today, nearly a decade after his last bout.
“Jay has always led the way with community building, technology and being at the forefront of what’s next. I remember the old days when Ronnie (Coleman) and Jay would release a DVD and they’d have this competition. was who would sell the most. Jay then became one of the first real social media celebrities in our space and I see him getting similar attention in the metaverse.

To some, thinking about NFTs might be considered a waste of time, but Reid offers an accurate comparison that may sway your opinion.
“Think about it. Subscriptions are the future of media consumption. Netflix, Hulu and so on. NFTs will be the next way to access and subscribe to information.”
It’s not just happening in North America. NFT’s are becoming a global trend, and MetaPumps is among the clubhouse leaders in the fitness space. Reid was in Dubai recently, talking about the development of the Metaverse gym at the DTEC Dubai Silicon Oasis, and there is already a movement in that part of the world.
“Dubai is all set to be the headquarters for all things Metaverse. Our Metaverse gym was the focal point of the presentation. We discussed how anyone from any part of the world can eventually join J and other leading bodybuilding/ Can train virtually with fitness icons. The technology for this is already available. Doing it from home would be very expensive but I’m sure it’s a possibility at some point in the near future.
It would be hard to avoid the fact that the market for cryptocurrencies and digital properties is volatile at this early stage of development. Like most advances in technology, it takes time to stabilize. Reed doesn’t shy away from that fact, and is optimistic about the future of his project and NFT in general.
“I actually think it’s a good thing for the market,” he explained. “It’s going to eliminate a lot of people who were just in it for the quick flip and don’t really care about the technology side of the Metaverse. I think we’re years away from full Metaverse training but it’s coming regardless. Whether we like it or not.
There are big plans for MetaPumps in 2023, including the development of the Metaverse gym and possible opportunities with Olympia in the future. In Reid’s eyes, the potential is endless.
“It will be fun to see how it goes.”
