I have struggled with my weight my entire life, but I was the heaviest I was (over 200lbs) after my three amazing boys (singleton and twins). I started Keto last year for a few months to get married and felt amazing. I lost 20lbs, but my old eating habits returned. Depression returned along with my old eating habits.
I finally dug myself out of the hole I was in and started keto back up for the new year. I crushed my goals, ran a handful of 5k races, competed in a grueling mountain challenge, lost 50lbs, but most of all proved that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.
1. What tactics did you use to help you reach your goal? What helped you best achieve your goals?
Throughout my keto journey, I’ve been able to use a few tactics to help me stay on track. Some of these tactics are joining keto groups on FB and IG. Seeing other people’s progress, tips and encouragement has kept me going. I enjoy finding new recipes and changing up my food.
My Fitbit helped me make sure I got in my steps/movements. I also have friends with Fitbits and we have friendly competitions to see who got the most movement during the week. leadership. I have a Macro Calculator This is very helpful in making sure you stick to your macros. And finally, taking pictures and taking measurements is extremely helpful in meeting your goals.
2. What is the most impactful change you have made to your diet and why do you feel it is the most important?
Cutting out sugar has helped me the most. I used to eat all the sweets! I had no self control when it came to cookies, brownies, any chocolate! After cutting out sugar and finding sugar substitutes like monk fruit sweetener, I no longer have those cravings.
3. What is the best advice you can give to someone just starting out?
My best advice to anyone just starting out is to do your research. Learn what Keto is, learn what macros are, join different groups or Keto accounts like Ruled.Me and see what works for everyone. Find a group of recipes, Create a weekly menu and grocery list. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
4. How do you feel your life is now that you are on your goal?
I am currently working on my goal, but I am no longer depressed. I have energy, motivation, I am happy and I love myself. Being able to play with my 3 kids and not be tired or out of breath is a great feeling. I can actually play soccer and basketball with them! I have also been able to accomplish some personal goals such as competing in a 5K and a Tough Mountain Challenge!! Things I never thought I would do.
5. What do you consider the biggest change in your daily life?
The biggest change in my daily life is my mindset. I have proven to myself that I can do it and it works! I know what I’m putting into my body and actually care about what goes in. I know I feel like crap when I don’t eat well. It’s true when they say you can’t out-exercise a bad diet.
6. What did you do to get help throughout your journey?
I have been fortunate to have support from family, friends and the Keto community on social media. Friends saw my progress and joined my journey, including my husband. He has also lost over 50lbs!
7. What do you currently do to manage your daily diet?
I manage my daily “meals” by creating my weekly shopping lists/menus, but keeping it simple. When you start needing a million ingredients for recipes, it may not make you want to make them. to use Ruled.Me’s Macro Calculator And An app to keep track What do I eat so I know I’m sticking to my macros? Also, the mindset that this is a lifestyle change and not a diet will help you stick with it in the long run.
8. What is your favorite keto recipe from www.ruled.me that has become a staple?
Oh man, my Pinterest is full of Ruled.Me recipes. Some of my favorites are Creamy Spinach Alfredo Zucchini Rolls, Bacon Breakfast Bagels and Keto Chocolate Mug Cake.
9. If you could do one thing differently during your trip, what would it be and why?
If I could have done anything differently, I would have measured at the beginning. I only took pictures, for which I am grateful.
